On the occasion of the United Nations (UN) Day the Heads of Agencies of UN Country Team visited Migrants Accommodation Centre (MAC) in Chernihiv oblast to see firsthand the conditions in which apprehended irregular migrants are living in.
After touring the Centre UN Resident Coordinator Olivier Adam stated his satisfaction with the conditions at the Centre and congratulated MAC?s administration for their efforts to implement best European standards.

Senior International and Ukrainian experts and policy makers discussed the prospects of economical, social and cultural impact of migration on Ukraine?s future development during the conference, arranged by IOM Ukraine in cooperation with the Foreign Ministry of Ukraine.
?Implementation of a balanced migration policy and Ukraine?s transformation from a transit zone for irregular migration into a modern state that sincerely welcomes and successfully integrates labour migrants is a key factor for Ukraine?s success in the process of European integration in general, and the introduction of the visa-free regime with the EU in particular?, underscored the Minister of Foreign Affairs of Ukraine H.E. Mr. Kostyantyn Gryshchenko in his welcoming address communicated to the conference participants.

Recently some Ukrainian media reported on ?6.5 million labour migrants from Ukraine?, apparently referring to IOM data. The IOM Mission in Ukraine would like to clarify that the Mission has not published such figures. The figure of 6.5 million people mentioned in IOM Ukraine?s publication ?Migration in Ukraine. Facts and Figures? refers to expatriate Ukrainians according to the census of the population of the foreign countries where they reside and not to labour migrants.
