Migration affects all countries ? and so do myths and misperceptions about its impact. There are many false assumptions surrounding migration. One such myth is that migrants are a burden. In reality, migrants make vast contributions to host countries. As workers, they bring skills. As entrepreneurs, they create jobs. As investors, they bring capital. In advanced and emerging economies, they play an indispensible role in agriculture, tourism and domestic work. Migrants often care for the youngest and oldest members of society. People view irregular migration as a crime. Many think migrants who lack proper documents are a danger to society and should be detained, or that all women who migrate to take up low-skilled jobs have been trafficked.

At a ceremony held at IOM Ukraine?s office a Memorandum of Cooperation was signed by The Head of the State Migration Service (SMS) Oleksandr Zabrudskyi and IOM Ukraine?s Chief of Mission Manfred Profazi. The Memorandum aims to consolidate efforts in promoting humane and orderly migration through, inter alia, addressing the challenges of irregular migration, ensuring the rights of foreigners and stateless persons, protecting victims of trafficking and promoting the reintegration of Ukrainian citizens returning from abroad. The Head of the State Migration Service Oleksandr Zabrudskyi underlined that the SMS is honoured to have ?such an influential and respected partner as IOM?.

IOM Ukraine?s partner NGOs are at a national auto rally this week, campaigning against trafficking for transplantation of human organs. Under the slogan ?Only Cars for Spare Parts? the activists are driving through 10 oblasts of Ukraine, stopping to disseminate leaflets and conduct short trainings at schools and colleges of small towns and villages en route of the auto rally. The auto rally will pass through Kharkiv, Dnipropetrovsk, Mykolaiv, Vinnytsia, Khmelnytskiy, Ternopil, Chernivtsi, Ivano-Frankivsk, Zakarpattia, and Rivne oblasts. Dnipropetrovsk oblast was the first one to see the auto rally on Friday, 25 November. The National Auto Rally will finish on 2 December, the International Day for the Abolition of Slavery.
